A public display at the Williamson County Administration Building in Georgetown is using donated shoes to remember people lost to suicide and connect visitors with support.
Every Step Remembered is open from Monday, September 14, through Friday, September 18, during the building's normal business hours. The venue is 1848 Texas Trail, Georgetown.
Each pair of shoes represents a life and the family or community affected by that loss. Some pairs were donated by bereaved relatives, while local veterans contributed combat boots to recognize veterans who died by suicide.
Support information at the display
Williamson County says a resource table will provide information about suicide prevention, crisis assistance, mental-health services and help for people affected by suicide loss.
The display addresses a distressing subject. Visitors should decide whether it is appropriate for children or for someone recently bereaved, and may wish to attend with a trusted person.
Anyone who needs urgent help in the United States can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. In an immediate emergency, call 911. Those services are not limited to the dates of the display.
Shoe donations
The initial collection received a strong response, although organizers say additional men's shoes are still needed. General donations can be taken to a Williamson County Justice of the Peace office.
Families who want to donate a loved one's shoes can contact the organizer through the email route in the county notice. The county says survivor-donated shoes will be preserved for future Every Step Remembered displays.
Donating a personal item is optional and may carry emotional weight. Families should use the official contact before travelling, particularly if they want to understand how an item will be labelled, stored or returned.
The display is intended both as a memorial and as a route to practical information. It does not replace clinical advice, emergency help or continuing bereavement support.
